Email Server Problem Diagnosis

What is Email Server?
Email Server is an application program that receives incoming email from the local as well as remote senders and delivers the outgoing mail to the desired destination as configured. It is also known as Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) or Mail Transport Agent, Email Router or Internet Mailer. When a computer is entirely dedicated to such application, it is called Mail Server.
For example: Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Exim, Sendmail, etc.
            Email Server works when combined with other program, it can be called as Messaging System. When an email message is send , it is either send to other email server or kept in the store to be directed later. Generally as a standard such systems use SMTP and ESMTP for sending the email and POP3 or IMAP for receiving email.


What are major Email Server Problems?


The major problems associated with the Email Server are:
·          Mail Server Configuration: If this is the problem, we should call the system admin and let them diagnose the problem. Such problems can be spotted down by watching the mail logs as the errors may appear there.
